Od momentu, kiedy przeczytałam o tym dramacie na Bałtyku, nie umiem już patrzeć na morze w Łebie, gdzie bywam corocznie- jak wcześniej! Cały świat wie o tragedii Titanika, gdzie straciło życie najwyżej półtora tysiąca ludzi, a naprawdę niewielu, zwłaszcza w Polsce- wie i pamięta o dramacie tych ok.10 tysięcy kobiet, dzieci, mężczyzn .To była największa w dziejach ludzkości katastrofa (i tragedia!) Na morzu! Część Ich pamięci!

1% of 2 million is still a lot.
It’s estimated that 32, 000 died in this 3 month period
Neat video

I completely disagree with the numbers given. I accept that no-one knows exactly how many people were killed but to say only one percent is completely absurd. The total who arrived in the western part of then Germany was probably no more than 900, 000. Furthermore there were far more than three ships sunk, the Goya, Steubel and Wilhelm Gustloff are just the most famous and largest. There were also thousands of civilians who died on the road, and just to give one example, I have seen estimations that in Gdańsk alone around 100 people were dying every day from hunger, cold and exhaustion from the trek to get there. Operation Hannibal was not as Doenitz claimed later to rescue people but to supply the bridgeheads in the east and pull out the wounded and equipment. Civilian refugees were just a nuisance which if space were available could be taken.
