Hollow Knight: Revek Parry Challenge (Hitless)

An old challenge suggested by Gabriel Pichorim to dream nail all the ghosts in the Spirits' Glade while parrying Revek. Thikkie more recently suggested to folks on the HK Discord a challenge to defeat Revek without taking damage. So here we are.

It should be pointed out that Revek has only one consistent move so once you can reliably react this isn't so bad (the trick being to jump and parry as soon as you see them move back right before they dash). Revek is incredibly fast so it's still easy to goof, as I had two failed attempts where I dream nailed all the ghosts but took damage on the final parry needed before super dashing out.

If you're just wanting to take out Revek the easiest way is to equip Sharp Shadow and dash into them as they zoom at you. It'll stun them and allow you to dream nail one or two ghosts per stun (Dreamwielder is very useful here). Spells and dream nailing Revek also stun them, but timing a dream nail swing for their dash is very difficult and you won't have enough soul to get all the ghosts.

It's interesting how some people think it's better to dreamnail the spirits and set them free from the delusion that they're still alive, and some think it's horrible to make them pass on when they seem happy enough, and also give Revek a sense of purpose.

I think both these arguments are correct. In Hollow Knight, dreams and essence are an imprint left on the world by memories and dreams. Sometimes, they are more ethereal, and can only be seen with a dream nail, such as most warrior dreams. Others, like the whispering root, the seer and the grey mourner are tangible enough to be hit with the dream nail and still not dissolve into essence, despite being made of dreams.

My theory is that the dreamnail alters the way others remember or perceive the being made of essence. Once you dream nail all the spirits in the spirits' glade, Revek as a warrior dream himself can no longer remember the others. When the seer disappears, she asks the Knight not to remember her. This shows that if warrior dream disappears, no one without dream powers will remember their material form or how exactly they looked, even they have a vague memory that they had been alive at some point. For someone who is already dead, the effect of dreamnailing another spirit is even more drastic - they will forget the person(or should I say bug) ever existed ar all.

This effect can be seen most drastically with the Radiance. The moth tribe was the one that could shape dreams, and when they said they said they'd "forget" the Radiance, they really did mean "forget". They made sure she never popped up in any memory or dream, and if she existed in real life they probably stopped dropping by to visit. After a a few centuries, they probably couldn't remember her physical features properly, and she became a figment of the mind. When they stopped thinking about that too, well - the Radiance was pretty much dead...because how can you possibly be alive if no one can ever testify that you exist?

So the answer to the dream nailing problem is - if someone who wants to remember the warrior dream exists, and who will forget their existence if you dreamnail them, leave them alone. If the spirit is alone, had a goal towards which they lived for which they won't be able to achieve now, dream nail them. If they're just kinda hanging around taking life at it's own pace, leave them be.

First time I played Hollow Knight I Dream Nailed one of these not remembering there dreams and after that I just thought I was a murderer and had to finish the job, so I Dream Nailed the rest. The only time I felt that much sadness over something I did in this game was when I killed Myla.

This is actually quite sad. The protector can’t do anything but watching you kill all his friends or comrades or whatever. And so he loses the meaning for even being a ghost. Because the only reason he remains there is to protect.

I find it hilarious that this is kind of the strongest character in hollow knight, double damage, cannot receive damage, practically unhittable

Yall. At the end when he shows his charms, he only has dreamwielder and void heart. The absolute madlad played a steel soul file to that point without charms.
