1952 Farmall Cub after timing

So I timed it on low idle. Like my other video states there’s more work to do. High idle didn’t move the second mark to the pointer. It’s not running bad and has more power but it’s not there yet. Also the governor adjustment has me stumped. No matter what I do it doesn’t seem to do much. I’ll probably put a new spring on it and see if that will help.

Remove the mag and make sure the rotor is timed properly. there are two little marks in the rotor and drive line them up. you have to remove the 2 screws and pull off the rotor housing it is a small oval shaped piece. next pull #1 plug and crank the engine by hand if can until you feel compression with your finger over #1 plug hole. turn the engine until the timing mark on the engine pully lines up with the pin. That is top dead center. with the mag off the two drive holes on the governor should be exactly at 2 and 8 O'clock . If they are not then the governor is out of time. That can be adjusted by removing the front governor cover. remove the bolts and you can pull the timing gear out just enough to turn it to 2 and 8 there should be timing marks on the inside of the housing. If you are @ 2 & 8 skip the gov adj. It is possible your mag is out by 180 degrees and still fire the engine. turn the mag drive so that the rotor is @#1 position, that will put you in the right place. If you have a little difficulty getting the mag drive pins into the gov slots you can manipulate the position by using the rotor. Make sure the cap is clean scuff every contact point with sand paper including the rotor contact points. and a little scuff on the points would help as well. Remember 1-3-4-2 firing order.

OH remember bad gas is anything that has sat for more than 2 months or has methanol or alcohol in it. use premium fuel only in these old machines. Other wise you get stumbling engine syndrome.
