“A place where I can experiment” is exactly why I like this sketchbook! I’m using one right now and bought two more in different sizes. Khadi gives me similar feel

I think this sketchbook did a great job at throwing you into the deep end and the work just got more juicy and incredible

I too had high hopes for 500 Mixed Media sketchbook (mine is a large spiral-bound) and intended to use it for elaborate mixed media drawings, but I too decided I won't buy it again because it warps way too much for that purpose. I like the smoother surface, and the paper accepts lots of watercolor layers without lifting, but the final artwork scans look like shit because the paper gets soo wobbly 😅
It's too expensive in Europe to use for just loose sketches, I can't justify paying that much when it doesn't live up to my expectations.

Your landscapes are so vibrant! 🤩 I'm trying to achieve that with my own nature sketches, so this is very inspiring to see.

What a fabulous video! Thank you so much for your unique approach to the love/hate relationship we often have with our materials. I discovered your channel when you interviewed Sarah Burns and I’m so glad I did. I’m enjoying catching up on your previous content and LOVE your use of color in this sketchbook. Many blessings to you❣️

I love it. When I first began to paint, I had the ability to just paint and play. I think that’s because I had no expectations. How I wish I could do that again. I have so many sketch books full of junk (my husband doesn’t think it’s junk). The bottom line is that I want back the feeling of no expectations. I was much more creative! Your work sings a happy song from page to page!

I have the exact same Strathmore Mixed Media 100% cotton softcover sketchbook. I bought it thinking it would be great with watercolor. I was sorely disappointed when it buckled and didn’t behave the way I expected it to. However, I figured out that I needed to adjust my watercolor technique, and then I really enjoyed using it. Also, it’s good with creamy and pigmented coloring pencils. Before I finished the one you have, I bought the same sketchbook, but a larger size. So far I’ve used my second one primarily for florals in coloring pencils. Thanks for sharing!

I love the Strathmore 500 Mixed Media Sketchbooks, and I nearly always have one on the go! But I agree with you, although they handle watercolour, they don’t make it sing! They’re great for coloured pencils though 😃

I LOVE your use of color in this sketchbook. These are the kinds of paintings that would immediately draw my attention if I saw them hanging in someone's house. I've eyed those tempera sticks, but I can't justify any new art supplies right now. Alas.

Current sketchbooks: two Talens Art Creation (one tiny, the other A4), a spiral-bound Mont Marte watercolour pad, an A6 Etchr everyday landscape cold press and a Khadi 185gsm square one for swatches. A couple of them are close to full, the others are closer to halfway.
Thanks for the tour ❤

The hints of bright pink in the landscapes are gorgeous, especially at 23:30. Definitely spark joy.

The sketchbooks I've been using recently are from Blue Acorn, which is a small brand based in the UK and I've been having fun :)

Have you ever tried the Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor Sketchbooks that they have in both Hardcover & Softcover like this Mixed Media version you used? I love them more than the mixed media version for the watercolors. They are also good for some of the other mediums (gouache, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, & inks) but not so good for markers. I love 💕 seeing your growth with painting all of the colorful abstract landscapes from your trips & travels. Thanks for sharing this sketchbook tour & review with us!

As long as it doesn't tear and fall apart I would make any sketchbook work for me 😅 I honestly loved how the watercolor look on this paper! You really created some wonderful pieces 🥰🥰🥰

Love this sketchbook for my mixed media. I have yet to find one that I love for watercolours. I hate my Stilman & Birn Beta with a passion but I am determined to finish it up next.

Great work, I love the way you use colors, your paintings are so vibrant, and though you don’t go into many details you still capture the essence of the view, it is inspiring, thank you for sharing! I’d love to join your art community

Really enjoyed your sketchbook tour. I loved seeing what you created and how you didn’t give up on the sketchbook and ended up enjoying it. Gorgeous landscapes!

💜👋💜 have finished yet but my foggy brain requires I tell you this now. 1. I luv that this hated sketchbook cracked you open artistically. Perseverance & acceptance led you to some discoveries you may not have had at that time. 2. Things/skills I’m learning through art are directly transferable to my health recovery journey too. We don’t know what gifts lie around the next corner. You don’t get to be here without walking on through. So I’m gonna carry that quote from 19:43 with me “I’ve got peace that makes no sense”. Perseverance Acceptance w/ a sense of Calm/Peace. That state of being bears the gift of freedom. 💕

I’m using a Royal Talens, trying to become more loose in my art and to find more play. This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Your sketches where you used the temperas are gorgeous!! Instantly clicked like, and subscribed!!💙
