Here are the questions we collected and the answers replied by the presenter.

Q1: What are the differences between Displacement-based FEM and Stress-Based FEM?
A1: For large deformation and nonlinear problems, the representation of a structure by finite elements using the Displacement-based FEM can be very complicated, particularly considering the total number of finite elements necessary to capture the behavior and repeatedly inversing the stiffness matrixes required to complete the task. The Stress-Based FEM can be very attractive for this class of problems particularly for the frame type structures. The presenter published a widely referred book identified below.
Haldar, A., and Mahadevan, S., Reliability Assessment Using Stochastic Finite Element Analysis, John Wiley & Sons, New York, NY, 2000.

In this book, both the Displacement-based FEM and Stress-Based FEM are discussed in detail with examples. The total number of finite elements required for a specific problem is also discussed. Serious scholars are requested to refer to this book.

Q2: How can the Performance Based Seismic Design (PBSD) be applied in reality?
A2: In the U.S., the PBSD concept is well developed for Immediate Occupancy (IO), Life Safety (LS), and Collapse Prevention (CP) performance levels, specifically for steel structures. IO, LS, and CP are defined in terms of allowable drifts. They correspond to the earthquake return period of 72, 475, and 2475 years, respectively. The allowable drift for them are 0.007 H, 0.025 H, and 0.05 H, respectively, where H is the height. The presenter wrote another book on the related books recently published as given below.
Haldar, A., Azizsoltani, H., Huh, J., Gaxiola-Camacho, J. R., and Vazirizade, S. M., Reliability Assessment for Complex Dynamic Systems Excited in Time Domain – REDSET, Wiley, New York, 2023.

Both books cited here are published by a very reputable publisher, Wiley, N.Y., in the U.S. Again, interested scholars are referred to these books to develop good understanding of the subjects.
