Lectric's First Full Sized Ebike! XPress Ride Review

Lectric Ebikes is cranking out new models this year! The XPress is their first full-sized electric bike, with 27.5" wheels and rocking a torque sensor, designed in-house by the Lectric crew. It's available in two frame styles (high-step or step-thru), and you also can pick between a 500- or 750-watt rear hub motor. Lectric hooked us up with a prototype for a day and we tested it out on some of Denver's wonderful cycling trails.

I just bought 2 of these for my wife and me, and this is a fantastic preview. So excited. Nice work.

ohh boi, this was quite a video I was looking for. Thank you so much for covering each and every aspect of the bike from built to ride and assist levels.Truly support your passion for sharing this with us.

Thank you so much for trying to quantify the delay & all other differences of this torque sensor vs others. A crucial deciding factor that I haven't really heard covered by other reviewers. Too bad there's no dealer network to try these out, but that's how they keep their low prices.

Just got my 750. Excellent quality. Torque sensor takes a little getting used to. After 3 rides, I’m good at controlling it now.

Best review I've come across. Just pre-ordered the XPress Step-Through, after Tyson's review I feel like a 10 year old waiting for Christmas! I appreciate Tyson's not bowing to current fads and is able to speak without 99% of his sentences being a qUeStiOn? (Upspeak) The "other" reviewer on Lectric's site made me cringe for 24 minutes. His content was good, but dang....if it's not a question, don't make it sound like one! Thanks again Tyson.

Sounds like a great system. Instead of artificially limiting top speed, the PAS levels dial in the amount of effort you need to get to that top speed. This gives you much more flexibility. Want some exercise, lower the PAS level. Want to get up to speed quickly increase it. It’s like the benefits of a torque sensor and a cadence sensor in one.

This vid made me purchase this bike. I use the 2.0 for local stuff. Connected a second battery with a kit from electric all wheel. I have non electric bikes but I really enjoy having the power when needed.

You can get a 20ah 52V magicycle for $100 more. Or an Ariel Rider kepler with a thousand watt Bafang and 52V 20 ah that goes 35mph for $200 more, and easily use those as a commuting bike. No torque sensor and larger 4" tires are not a deal breaker. The magicycle is not as fast as a kepler but does do the 28mph.. You get a much more relaxed position with the Keplers adjustable bar neck. You have to think about the seating to handlebar position and that little 48V 14 ah battery. Good news is the $300 for a second battery with the Lectric. $400 or so for a second aftermarket battery for a Kepler or Magicycle. Yes, the aftermarket $400 batteries I found for a Kepler and Magicycle are equivalent or better quality than stock $500-$750 batteries.

That motor is L O U D! And I have watched too many ebike review videos. Great for video demo. Bad for ownership. I hope Letric sorts this out in the production model. I would love to see a similar video on a production model

If this had a belt drive, I would be hitting that buy button right now.

Like to get everyone's thoughts. Looking at buying a bike, which one?
Express?
Wired freedom?
E cells 5 star?

Thanks for demonstrating how the PWR+ manages power from the motor with the torque sensor. Not sure if it’s a time-averaging function or simply holds your peak speed until some trigger (time after peak pedal effort, brake actuation, %drop in rider effort).

More effortless to sustain high speed for sure, but I’m not sure what the safety consequences are. One benefit of a torque sensor bike is the ability to manage power assist and speed easily with pedal effort. That includes backing off when approaching a potential hazard. I’d have to ride it for a while, experiencing a wide variety of conditions, to decide whether it’s a net positive.

Ships in June….. changed to July….. oh.. Now August. Typical Lectric supply chain excuse.

Let’s hope the XP 4.0 has this motor and torque sensor.

Great review!

Sadly, the loud motor is still present in the production bike I just received. I also have an Xpeak with what is supposed to be a similar motor, and the Xpress is significantly louder.

Great response to the latest torque sensor tech from Lectric. Time to upgrade from my XP

Did you weigh the bike as it sits? Web site says 50 lbs without battery. I don't think that includes a lock and rack or fenders installed either. I can't believe it's 58lbs as you have it there. That battery should be about 8 lbs.

Some of us do have to climb insane hills on our commutes. 😉 Reviews consistently limit road tests to flat terrain. I need to know how bikes perform in mountainous areas. 11-32 or 11-34 sure would have been nice.
