The Downside to Bamboo Cloth Diapers (flats & prefolds)

Bamboo is one type of fabric that I love having in my stash. It’s absorbent and it’s so buttery soft when we’re talking about bamboo/cotton blends.
In fact, most “bamboo” on the market is blended with cotton. So it’s common to see a flat or Prefold with 55% bamboo and 45% cotton.
There are some China cheapie inserts out there that are 100% viscose/bamboo viscose. I find that those aren’t really buttery soft like the bamboo/cotton blend ones are.

Th biggest issue with bamboo is that it shrinks after being prepped.
It’s normal for fabrics like hemp, bamboo, and cotton to shrink while being prepped.. in fact, expect that! That’s normal and it will happen.
However, bamboo has the tendency to keep shrinking over the months and over the years.
Sometimes the shrinkage is accredited to the batch of bamboo.. some batches shrink more than others. However, the way we take care of bamboo can truly effect the way it wears over time.

If you like washing your diapers in hot water and drying them on high heat then you might possibly see bamboo shrink really quickly.
Bamboo is one of those fabrics that need to be babied. So take that into consideration if you’re wanting to use bamboo and want it to last a long time.

Yep my diaper rite bamboo flats shrunk like crazy. So thick and dense and small now. My bamboo stretchy flats don’t shrink though.

I agree with the bamboo flats, I cant even fold it into a pad fold it's so short and fat it doesnt work!!! Lol I'm tempted to cut and sew them into inserts or boosters....

I have bamboo prefolds that I got used. I think they're the yellow nickis. I never use high heat on my diapers- always medium or low- and they are now newborn size! It's crazy.

Yes I have grovia newborn size prefolds they're so soft and stay floppy even when line dried but they shrunk oh so much. But I like using it as a pad tri folded insert against babies skin even tho hes outgrown the size. It's not absorbant enuff anymore by itself I must use a booster layering system under it
