Thanks to Bespoke Post for sponsoring this video.

In today's video we revive the AWD Rally Miata! But its broken... during the previous rallycross event the trans mount ripped out of the chassis. So today we fabricate a new custom tubular transmission mount! We also replace the engine mounts & trans mount with upgraded bushings!

"In case you're new to the channel" says a lot about how far you have some over the past few months.

For those curious, he hinted at moving to Georgia in one of the videos. He also hinted at selling the drift truck in Taylor Ray's video. So it could be either of these things

quick fab tip, if you only weld one washer on to the mount points you cant put the bolt inside the tube, this will reduce the stress on the bolts since they aren't having to pass through the whole tube. It will also protect the bolts from getting hit by anything

It feels like it's been forever since the last rally miata video. I even forgot about the mc donalds coilovers

i think you should weld a triangle on the trans mount, left from the bushings on that bend when it meets the plate for the bushings, looks like a weak spot. Great job nonetheless

One hand spry paint it's a gift of nature, we mere mortals cannot get close

While I do miss the supercharger whine, this thing is so much cooler now. I remember when it was still black and not lifted

For maximum ground clearance, you should look into rectangular or oval exhaust systems. It would be a really cool project.

Not sure if you plan to keep the miata steering rack, but a common upgrade for the gd wrx is to get the respective sti rack, which is a decent bit quicker, or you can use a 2015+ sti rack, which is even quicker. The 2015+ rack requires a little modification to the tie rods I think but could be worth not having to run the steering quickener.

Some manufacturers use rag joints and ball N trunion joints ( a type of CV joint) to overcome those binding issues.
Just adding a rag joint to your existing setup can remover the binding. You can get Neoprene donuts for the rag joints instead of using the rubberized cloth material.

Great fab work!

The way you describe the steering feel, it can definitely be alleviated, if not solved, by changing the phasing of the U-joints. If the angle of both joints are equal, they need to be in phase with each other, but when they're not the phasing needs to be off as well to compensate. I would suggest starting by rotating one joint 90 degrees, that should get the phasing closer than it is now, and then you need to fine tune it by trial and error.

The slop is a separate issue, but I'd suggest a faster rack as others here have suggested, I don't thing an entirely new steering column is necessary at all.

When you do the exhaust you should make a skid plate that attaches the front bash bar to the trans mount. It will add strength and help block dirt....

I'm always impressed with his work, like it amazes me how he creates these mounting bracket designs in his head with ease, keep up the good work man!

Caleb, about the steering. Consider going with a non hydraulic rack, and add a electronic power steering module. I believe one from a '10 corolla is the easiest one to add, without messing around with too much electricals. you can adjust the level of assistance, without sacrificing the non hydraulic feedback. it has been done before, and imo, its really nice to drive and control.

Would love to see a new set of headers and a front skidplate on this thing. Keep up the good work!
