the problem is the plot. people would be less likely to care if they changed lupin, neville, another less morally complex character. i mean snape is not the best representation of black people, he is not a good person, he is a death eater. plus, it makes harrys dad a bad person (racist), because the marauders bullied severus, who is black. severus is also poor, which is also a stereotype. plus severus is the one whos appearance is described the most in the books. i would like to see a black lupin or neville (i think it would look the most harmonious). but not snape. he is not suitable for it.

Friend of mine messaged me about Essiedu getting casted as Snape. Don't know much about Essiedu's acting (haven't seen what he's been in), but if he fits for the character than he's probably good for the part. I don't really care about the whole raceswapping thing, and I think you put it really well with how theater has always cast actors of different race and gender than the role so it really shouldn't matter. What should always matter is the acting and the writing for a part, at least in my opinion.

It shows he once before did not respect source material. I am so done with race swapping . Leave white characters alone or maybe time to race swap the other way to and see how that would be recieved, but wait do not matter right so should be no issue race swapping a well described Black guy with a white guy.

And top this with Snape's story line. They just added in Racism instead of Diversity and on top of that stereotyping of Black People. Congrats!!!
