That was a "hey, get off me!" nip and not a "so you have chosen death" mauling.

Totally understand not hugging a strangers dog and agree. but the owner should not let people pet his dog either (which it looked like he agreed to), stupid from both parties. I don’t let people pet my dogs bc the reward AINT worth the risk. Nothing good will ever come from someone petting my dog.

The handler should not have allowed this interaction. It seems unlikely that the dog is normally friendly and only chose this instance to be uncomfortable and give this type of warning. Having said that, putting your face right up close to any strange dog is asking for it.

I grew up on a farm. Long story short don’t get in any animals face even the ones you know well if they don’t look like they’re having it that day back up just like a human they deserve respect in their space!

Oof and it was giving so many signs of discomfort. The eyes, the licking, all of it. I don't even hug on my own dogs except for my German Shepherd that I raised from baby and slowly trained that bc she's my emotional support. Now if I'm crying or upset she'll come over for hugs. But if anyone else tried that, she'd probably react like that lol.

I always ask and make small talk with the owner. If they owner says no to petting them, I compliment their dog and tell them to have a nice day. Common sense isn’t hard 😂

It's polite to ask permission to pet the dog first and also ask if you can take a selfie with it
