I discussed this with some pilot friends, and we all have the same opinion: cool in theory, but if that thing fails to go symmetrical you’ll have the mother of all high-speed landings, landing with essentially negative flaps. Runway calculations with that would be dicey. (“Ah, yes, where’s the nearest 20000ft runway? In Florida? Cool…”)

So one of us suggested it should fail-safe into the high-lift configuration, but like, if does that uncommanded in high-speed flight, then in the best case you get an airplane that violently pulls up hard, but more likely structural failure.

You’re suddenly in an entirely different flight regime. Imagine flaps deploying mid-flight but harder.

In the end, cool idea, but stuff breaks all the time, and this breaking would be almost a death sentence

Aircraft are NOT symmetrical on the vertical axis, except missles and other projectiles.

Watching helicipters fly is what as a child made me think tilting the wings could cut through the air better.

as a kid i was into paper planes and starwars, in starwars some ships are asymmetrical, i made a paper plane to mimic the style and the plane was so good, it was faster, more stable and flew higher. i used that design only for quite some years till i forgot how to make it.
