Just to set the record straight, You are incorrect. I live in Turkey, I can assure you that Hereke still exists, infact I was there this very week. I can also tell you, there is a working carpet museum that still produces carpets in Hereke, be it a very limited quantity. They have recently made two fine carpets for The Topkapi Palace, Istanbul.

I will go back and look at previous videos, but I am finding it hard to identify single not and double not carpets just by looking at them. Also, you mentioned various quality levels of silk. Might be a nice video to discuss silk. In previous videos, you mentioned the signature is the designer and not the weaver. What categories of designers are there. That is to say, some have medallions, other's tree of life, others have animals on them, some have what looks like cups as in this video. What are the main symbols and what countries do they come from. I know it's not totally coherent here but just sharing some general questions. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank for educating the world about these rugs. Also, it seems impossible that someone can use strings to make these designs. Why not just make a blank carpet and then add color? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but it seems like a lot of work when you could just imprint the colors after it is woven (if that is possible).

Hereke ıs süperior in many aspects, only some carpet lovers may like qum carpet to be softer, but to truth is Hereke is a more durable and long-lasting carpet. Thankyou for THE nice video

When it comes to durability is a thicker silk single knot better or the Turkish knot with thinner silk?

Hi Alex,
You asked about the writing in the Hereke and here is what I can tell you...
My family is Persian (Iranian), the rug is Turkish & the writing is a Arabic verse...
It could be poetic or taken out of the Koran and since it is in Arabic to the best to our abilities, its a challenge for us. As in most Hereke rugs, the right side is a mirror copy of the left side and if you want to see more close-ups of the rug, click on the link here...

i find the qum rug far more beautiful, the colors & design & elegance on that rug is not comparable to hereke
