CRÈTE

Stelios Petrakis began his apprenticeship of the lyre at the age of eight in Sitia, his birthplace in Crete. Very quickly, he enriched his knowledge of the music of his island by exploring other repertoires from Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria, which led him to perform with the best representatives of traditional Mediterranean music. His love and admiration for the music of Crete led him to form the Crete Quartet, with whom he aims to present a large panorama of music from Crete, that he continues to bring to life by integrating them into his own compositions.
