Should I Buy this ABANDONED Sports Car?

I got the call from Auto 2000 Porsche in Bedford about an opportunity to buy a barn find of a classic 1980s sports car. It's a car I've always dreamed of owning. And at first it seemed like a bit of a bargain. But would it be too good to be true?

Those estimates are crazy, they are prices for each individual job in isolation rather than as a whole (e.g. sills and kidney bowls). They wanted the car for stock. You should have asked about the yellow 993 behind you in the garage! 😊

I am often walking with my dog near a Porsche dealer here in Poland. Yesterday there was an older 993 sitting next to some new 911s, Taycans and Cayennes. Man, 993 looks million times better than any new 911 generatio.

My Mum had a 1981 911 3.0 SC sport for 30 years. Think she got it from Porsche Bournemouth. It was garaged all its life. It was a guards red targa with a huge whale tail spoiler and cream leather with red piping. Sold it with 77, 000 miles on and original panels, engine and gearbox in very good condition in 2013. There was no rust or rot but a tiny bit of bubbling in a couple of places. She regrets selling it - it was a rash decision. Most of the service history was main dealer. Service history file was very thick and big. Superb provenance. She sold it right at the beginning of the classic car boom. It’s probably worth four times what she sold it for now. Think it went to the South West.

For that sort of restoration cost you could buy a pretty decent almost perfect version and even if you had to spend another £5 or £6, 000 on a few items, it would still be a better deal. For the dealer to carry out the work themselves would make more sense, as they will be buying parts at trade prices and the Labour is their own.

I’d personally get a decent one for 30k and keep on top of all the little bits.
