How will humans survive beyond Earth? How will we get around? Communicate? Explore?

Join NASA 360 as we take a look at NASA Langley’s Systems Analysis & Concepts Directorate (SACD) and how they envision the art of the possible.

From the air we fly in to the air we breathe; UAVs to commercial transportation and hypersonic flight; from rockets to robots; satellites to human habitats, SACD is helping move NASA forward.

Can't we take our 3D printers out to space in a small ship?

Our 3D printers can print plastic, metal and other materials.

We can send a printer-ship into space... letting it print new printer-ships in space.

Part of printable materials can be divided and shared with newly printed printer-ships.

If we need more printable materials to fill the tank, we can send "artificial comets/asteroids" ahead to orbit far planets or moons. Making them synchronize with the coming ships.

Future ships could then travel in space the same way trains travel on railways.

For more ideas just just. ^^

There is no "beyond earth." Earth is the most hospitable planet we will find. Space is hostile and we can't thrive there. Exist there? Maybe. Thrive - no. Just existing is not enough. Humans must be able to thrive. You people need to get a grip. I for one don't look forward to living in a small bubble on an inhospitable dirt ball in space. This isn't Star Trek.
