This video finishes the book, walking through the remainder of Durkheim's description of "normal" organic solidarity in modern society. We then pick up his diagnoses of the diseased forms of actually-existing capitalist societies: those whose division of labor is anomic, forced, or anarchic.

This made me think if online groups on social sites could be considered similar to the traditional societies of old in terms social conscience. Outrage and shaming are powerful tools, Durkheim said that modern people could just move to another city... But now you could be forever haunted by your mistakes because they are achieved ad infinitum. Or say banning people from communities online is akin to killing their online persona for not obeying the norms and standards of said community.

Great channel, very useful guidelines. Thank you!

But, I don't think that Durkheim is as radical as Marx at all. Durkheim seems to believe that regulations in division of labor would set things right, while Marx claimed that the problem lies at the very heart of the division of labor.
