rewatched this movie again for the first time in years and i still hate this scene like you love her but know she doesn't love you the same way that she still loves john but you used her empathy and love for helping others to have your son taken care of and for your own selfish reasons? and john is such a kind guy he still gave a donation just so she and alan can have those few more months with him knowing he kept him from the love of his life but john is a decent human and gives them time that he lost.

I just watched this movie for the first time, and man, it broke me. I know this is just Hollyweird, but the way they portrayed the love between John and Savannah was magic. Who in his right mind would not dream of having a woman love you the way she loved him? It's great that he wanted to serve his country and all, but to stay as long as he did, instead of going back to her? Not me, man.
