Cicero - AI that can negotiate with and for you

This week the group discussed Meta's new model called CICERO which combines language modes with strategic reasoning to produce "AI That Can Collaborate and Negotiate With You". They apply this technology to play a board game called Diplomacy at a human level. To do this the model has to negotiate deals with human players in a way that is advantageous for both the CICERO model and the human players. That is, it has to learn what is a good compromise for both the human players and itself.

This is strategic tactical reasoning at a very high level not often associated with AI systems. It requires the system to not only understand the words the humans use, but also the strategies the humans may be employing in trying to gain a tactical advantage on the AI and other players.

The technology behind CICERO could one day lead to more intelligent assistants in the physical and virtual worlds.
