99 Cents Only closures leave employees, customers shocked

The discount chain 99 Cents Only announced it is shutting down all 371 of its stores in California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada, citing rising costs and theft.

More people loosing their jobs, and more people left without a bargain store to shop, is going to make them desperate. Many might resort to shoplifting, mugging and stealing from nearby homes.

I work at the location in Atascadero, Ca, the email they sent us said the closeout sale was estimated to be finished on Jun 3, I believe. They also sent us (at least me) an email on April 3rd saying the severance pay plan was canceled as of April 1st. A lot of us knew the company was likely to shut down soon, it just surprised me how suddenly it all went down. At least everyone has 2 months to figure it out, but for many people that shop there that’s gonna suck.

I don't blame 99 stores for closing down. That's what happened when you allowed thieves to steal without getting arrested..
