Replace Toyota Tundra Hood Scoop [4K]

In this video I will walk you through how to replace the hood scoop on a Toyota Tundra. This hood scoop kept coming up at highway speed which seems to be a common issue for them. If the scoop is ever removed for any reason it must be done very carefully. There are very small sensitive tabs that can break easily. This is the cause of the scoop coming up while traveling quickly. The tabs hold the mesh on in the actual scoop portion of the hood scoop. The only solution I was able to come up with was to simply replace the whole scoop. Enjoy the video!

I found mine was taking in air while driving. So I filled cavity with Great Stuff foam. That worked for about five years. I am now replacing it for the third time. 😅

Just had the same problem after going thru a drive thru car wash. I just ran some double sided 3m tape. Held pretty strong.

My initial thought on the broken tabs on the inside, is how and where (hand placement) the hood is closed. If pressure is put on the hood scoop/bulge when closing, that could be a factor. I baby mine when I close it. Haven't noticed this issue from the video, but haven't looked for it either.

Thanks man i wanted to make sure that it was a kind of just plug and play deal i had a couple broken clips as well i super glued it and it worked for awhile but ended up flapping up at highway speed after a month

Had the same problem, including with an aftermarket piece. I ended up self tapping it with stainless steal screws.

You didn’t show how it was removed. You pointed at the 3 screws that are obvious. What are the other fasteners that are holding it tight after the screws are out.

Good little video. 👍

My 2016 has this issue as well. You'd think either having metal tabs on these ( or even the entire piece) made of metal would be the way to go. Granted, it would be more expensive.. but one and done would be cheaper than two, three, or more plastic replacements.

Mechanic broke my tabs by closing the hood on a bottle cap from some fluids

On a tundra forum, a guy drilled small holes on top inside, in between the two tabs, an used small zip ties, an it works great, just did it on my 2014 tundra, but I also found a whole replace bulge on Amazon for 130 bucks, that's a steal because there almost 400 at the dealership, it even looks like it's thicker material.

Same thing is going on with mine but can’t we just change the plastic retainer clips? I thought that would fix it but not too sure just yet

I have the same problem with my 2014 Tundra. I've tried gluing it and using special double stick strips from 3M but it keeps blowing up. Did your fix work and which replacement scoop did you use? OEM is pretty expensive but there are lots of after market choices. I want to get the right thing. Thanks!

I’m on my 3rd one. I’m about to self tap this damn thing. I’ve had it. Worst thing on this tundra. Only thing I don’t like. 2017.

What hood scoop like this one would fit on a 2006 tundra

That's a hood bulge...important when you're looking to order or looking for the correct video. Also, color match that bad boy, chrome is trash.

I have a 2014 and I’ve replaced mine 3 times same problem

It’s called a Hood Bulge, not a Hood Scoop.
