An Innocent Man is the 9th studio album by Billy Joel released in 1983. It went on to sell 7 million copies in the United States. It spent a total of 111 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. It contains the #1 hit "Tell Her About It," the top 10 hits "An Innocent Man" and "Uptown Girl," and the top 20 hit "The Longest Time." The album earned Joel 2 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year. Musical genres on the album include pop rock, soft rock, doo-wop, and blue-eyed soul. The concept of the album is a tribute to the American popular music that Joel grew up with during his teenage years. On the album, Joel pays homage to a number of different popular American musical styles from artists that were popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s, most notably doo-wop, rock and soul, and soul music.
