"India acted in legitimate self-defence (on the Balakot airstrikes in February 2019) but behaved in a prudent fashion after the attack," said John Bolton, former National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump, in an exclusive interview with ThePrint's National & Strategic Affairs editor Jyoti Malhotra. Bolton discussed his new tell-all book 'The Room Where It Happened' as well as the Ladakh crisis, US troops in Afghanistan, Trump-Modi bonhomie and how countering China's "long-term" goals requires global cooperation.

You're getting such high value guests! Excellent work, ThePrint! It is so nice to see an American administrator given India-centric questions.

Whereas Mr John Bolton is a sensible man, does India need an endorsement on how to handle its foreign relations with neighbors from the United States. Any sovereign nation state is quite capable of endorsing itself. We welcome opinions not endorsements

In nutshell, Bolton made it clear that in the larger scheme of things, US doesn't think much of India. It's China which matter to US more and in their whole strategy for subcontinent, India is a just a pawn to counter balance Chinese.

Kudos print to bring this guy.. but problem we need more smart to get knowledge of this guy. Just india centric conversation are so less compared to this guys experience in pentagon...could have been more better

Anchor seem to be Kiddish in her behavior. Reducing the China problem to Indo-China issue is kiddish. Lost an opportunity to get views from a person like BOLTON on the new world order and how China or other rouge states can be managed.

A very curious point has come out of this interview, one which our foreign & defence ministries need to deliberate upon.
After Balakot, the Pakistanis, who don't enjoy a very good relationship with the current US administration, still managed to get their point-of-view across to Pentagon first, who then reported back to John Bolton.
This means that the Pentagon, and in-turn all the American armed forces, are still in the Pakistani court or at least listen to their Pakistani counterparts and not dismiss them off-hand.
This situation definitely needs to be reversed in our favour.
Also, it shows that the US still looks India and Pakistan from the same prism.
Thank you ThePrint, for giving us the opportunity to hear ex-NSA of USA. Really appreciate it!

Very respectfully - when anchor say that she hasn’t read the book; it’s like interviewing a Michelin chef without know what the food tastes like

Just a factoid I came across: He was the US Ambassador to the UN when the US voted against making Dr. Shashi Tharoor UN Secretary General during the second Bush Administration

you can clearly discern whose opinion Jyoti Mam respects or agrees or partially agrees or disagrees by the number of interruptions in her interviews.
there is an inverse relationship here.

He is everywhere promoting his book and India doesn’t feature as much as it does in Pakistan.Unless you are a nuisance you don’t feature. It is good not be discussed much in US .I don’t think its great interview.
