For me, this song is about a couple - one of them is having a depression and tried to committee suicide more than once. Her / his partner is their angel, the person that saved them every time. Although that their partner is having a hard time saving her / him every time, one of them needs to stay strong, so they don't let her / him to see how hard is all that for them, they don't let them see their tears, because angels don't cry.

i feel like this song is about a codependent friendship or relationship in which one person has a saviour complex, and the other is someone who is traumatised/mentally ill and relies on the other person to feel okay or for stability. it's slowly breaking the "saviour" person, or the "angel", and destroying their mental health, but they just have to keep pushing with a fake smile, because no, angels don't cry.

the song is sung from the pov of the 'saviour' part of the relationship (we'll call them person A), and the other person in the relationship relies on them for security (they're gonna be referred to as person B). self explanatory lyrics - person B seems to 'require' help from person A, as they do not have any other supports, and person A cannot bear seeing person B suffer.

"play on broken strings
but the ugly world has clipped your wings
you need someone to forgive your sins
and i'm there when you call"

person B is traumatised or mentally ill but likely both - they aren't a bad person because of this. the 'ugly world' has 'clipped their wings', hurting their mental health and hindering their growth and freedom. person A is always around for person B. it is also common for many traumatised people to have a core view of the world being a dangerous place - ugly, as a result of the trauma.

and it's starting to get hard to make it all go away
putting heaven in an empty heart,
is it worth all the pain?"

person B's mental health is deteriorating, it's like they have a 'devil on their shoulder' causing them to become increasingly mentally unstable. it's getting harder for both of them, as person B struggles with their own health. person A is the 'angel', and trying to give out love and care to person B's seemingly 'empty heart', but it's hurting person A and they're wondering if it's worth it.

'save your life' could be metaphorical, as in person A helping person B to get through a hard time, or literal such as talking person B out of suicide or self-harm, or other dangerous/risky behaviours. it's not a bad thing to help a friend or partner struggling, but with the wording of 'made me do it for you every time', it has been continuous and implies that person A is not getting any other forms of help, with the 'made me' implying that person B perhaps manipulated person A into doing so, whether intentionally or not. however, person A, the 'angel', despite being stressed and negatively affected by playing as the therapist friend/partner, puts on a brave face and doesn't cry - crying would be an expression of their emotions and how they truly feel inside, and an obvious display of how poor they feel - but person A tells themselves to not do so, as they believe they must prioritise person B's wellbeing above all.

person A tells person B to relax and 'close their eyes', taking a backseat let person A take care of them and handle person B's own pain and process their trauma. person A tries to reassure person B and themselves that everything will be okay, reminding themselves yet again that they shouldn't cry - that person B always comes first.

person B is harming person A's mental health. it's not exactly person B's fault, as they seem clouded by their own illness(es), but it's not a healthy relationship between the two of them either. 'dressed in white' could be referring to a more 'pure' or improved state of mental health that person A maintains, and how person B's 'blood' could be tainting or affecting that. the 'hundredth time' - this isn't the first time person A has had to comfort person B at the expense of their own happiness, because person B's hurt becomes person A's. it's possible person A is an empath, and easily becomes influenced by other's emotions, especially when close to them.

person A is bottling their emotions and hiding their true sufferings from person B - because they may believe person B deserves the help more, is more important, that they (person A) needs to 'save' person B and be responsible for them, or for any number of reasons (in my opinion the last one seems more likely, as person A metaphorised as an 'angel', and angels are often depicted as saints who help others). this is very bad, as eventually all of these bottled up feelings will explode, 'losing their mind trying to save person B's life', basically. but because person A has created this role for themselves, that person B is sicker and more valid in their suffering (deserving the compassion and empathy more), person A is an 'angel' and they mustn't ever put themselves first or care for their own mental health. overall a very sad song, that i'm sure many people can relate to now or have experienced similar situations in their lives before.
