Doing the bare minimum, expending the least amount of effort possible – it’s an approach some businesses and employees get away with, but it’s not ideal for customers. In this video, I talk about the importance of taking responsibility at work.
Are you just getting by, coasting along at your job, passing the buck and blaming others for your limited or lackadaisical contribution? What if instead, you went above and beyond for your boss, your coworkers, and your customers?
You can achieve great things when you accept responsibility for doing a great job. Taking responsibility at work can make all the difference to you and the people you work for.
In my video, I poke fun at Frontier Airlines. Their business is based on providing customers with cheap airfare – and not much more. I describe a recent Frontier flight characterized by ridiculous upcharges, avoidable delays, and unhelpful excuses. I joke that Frontier’s slogan could be: “At Least You Didn’t Die!” Getting you to your destination in one piece seems to be the extent of the value they offer.
What’s the responsibility of a company to its customers? Is doing the bare minimum really enough? And when things go wrong, whose job is it to accept accountability? I suggest that to be successful as a company, as an employee, or as a human being, you have to step up, do your best, and respond with care.
Are you taking responsibility at work – or only doing the bare minimum for your company and your customers? Think about the extraordinary outcomes you can deliver when you go the extra mile, respond responsibly, and let the buck stop with you.
