A ridiculously good act. I'm a Gen-Gen-Xer, but I like this style of music for some reason. The video for this song is excellent.

Yes, she can sing without effects and has a nice sounding, sultry voice. Don't listen to clueless "experts" who don't know what they're talking about and like to criticize. If it sounds good to you and you like it, it did what it's supposed to. This whole album is mixed to have an escapist, ASMR feel, that almost draws you into another realm and that brings out more of her head voice tones to make her sound uber feminine with several layers of her voice, one over another. It's a creative piece of art that works and people enjoy. You can see she is using correct, professional vocal technique by how she holds her mouth and posture. As far as singers in general go, just about ALL have heavily altered vocals on recordings, nowadays and to an extent, a few decades back. Michael Jackson didn't need them. Examples are my faves, Def Leppard, along with Motley Crue, Blondie (the effect heard here is similar to how Debbie Harry's voice was altered for the high parts in Heart of Glass that she didn't sing high, when singing live and Michelle was influenced by Sade's smooth voice), and the most heavily "corrected" singer of all time, Stevie Nicks, to the point of what she originally sang being unrecognizable. Don't know about Sarah Brightman. She might not have much altered. Michelle Joy definitely CAN sing AND write.
