Azerbaijan currency is called "Manat" and one USD is equal to 1.70 Azeri Manat. Azerbaijan is generally a cheaper travel destination and you can stay easily for $20 per with accommodation and food etc. I usually book hotels through agoda.com and booking.com in advance.
