1987 Volvo 740 Turbo - Part 3: Project Updates!

I drive the Volvo 740 Turbo and provide some updates on the work that we have completed over the last few weeks. Also, we have some more Bingley bonus content at the end of this video!

Really excited! I live in Scandinavia and i own a 1988 US spec 740 Turbo with the m46 overdrive manual! I have blue exterior, blue interior and same checkered seats like you but blue! I have had it now for two years and i love this car! Good luck with yours!

You're tearing through all the usual issues, nice work. My 940 just started a front left clunk too after replacing...well a lot of the suspension parts but not all of them. At least most parts are cheap!

The pump issues you describe sounds definatly like the pump in the tank is bad. Very common that the pump under the seats starts to sound funny when the rear one goes bad.

Worn out front strut rod bushings often cause clunks in the front suspension on 7/9 series cars. The IPD polyurethane ones are a nice and easy replacement. The rear strut rod bushings rarely go bad, in my experience. It could also be a bad ball joint or tie rod end.
Volvo used to make no note of whether you should use the clutch to engage the OverDrive / 5th gear button. I think starting in 1983, Volvo made a note in the Owner's Manual to "gently depress the clutch" while engaging OverDrive...at least in the 240s. I'm not sure if that information carried over to the 740 / 760 Owner's Manuals.

Greetings, I could be wrong but I would swear I saw black Volvo wagon followed by a black Volvo sedan followed by a white 240 wagon parked in a driveway as you were driving around in your 740 wagon. Are these all yours or do live in Volvo owners estate somewhere?
