Rapid Assessment Zone (RAZ) Emergency Department Process Improvement

The Emergency Department at Butterworth has implemented many new process changes over the last year and a half which have positively affected the care patients receive. The Rapid Assessment Zone, known as RAZ, was implemented in March of 2013 and changed the entire care model of the department. Utilizing process improvement tools and methodologies to create the RAZ process, patients are seen quickly by a provider, reducing the patient’s wait time. There has also been a reduction in patients that receive care in a hallway bed and the left without being seen rate has been dramatically reduced. This video illustrates how far the ED has come in improving the quality of care patients receive since the RAZ process has been established.
