New York Stock Exchange opens as US recession fears send stock markets tumbling

Stock markets around the world have dropped sharply amid fears the US economy may be heading for a recession.

The UK's FTSE 100 has been falling throughout the day and was down by more than 3% on Monday afternoon. The FTSE 250 also dropped in early trading and had fallen 4% by the afternoon.

Other exchanges in Europe, including in France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain, also dropped between 2% and 4% on Monday.
