Ducati broke open a niche in the adventure-touring market when it introduced the 2010 Multistrada, adopting the rugged appeal of the class but without much of the implied dirtbike-ness of the segment-leading BMW R1200GS.

I rode mine from Victoria in BC, Canada, to New York. 5 Days. No aches and pains at all and I was 67 at the time. Mine was the 2010 Model, which I had to sell sine I was moving to Jamaica.

Now 15, 000 miles riding my 2011, no leaking oil, no problems really on any level. The machine has been flawless. It can go on any terrain a casual rider would come across & does it with a real sense of character & style. It's actually a rather tough machine. There's a reason why this a best seller. It's utterly fantastic.

Test rode a 2012 this summer and loved it. Decided to get one next year. Then I watched "Long Way Round" and then "Long Way Down" and started lusting after a GS. But who am I kidding, i have non riding wife and 2 small kids and I'm not going to Magadan or Cape Town anytime soon. I'll get the MS and take day trips.

7K miles, about to take it in for it's second service with no issues at all. Great bike and done a 1200 mile trip to and 1200 back with no problems at all, just wish the bike had a cruise control for long journeys, only complaint.

Consider the standard model. Once you set up the suspension to your taste, you wont be changing it much anyway. Maybe a little preload adjustment for a passenger, etc.
As for the driving modes. Every test, every rider I'v read says that after they go thru the novelty of being able to change power modes, they just leave it in sport mode 100% of the time. Your wrist is very capable of regulation the engine.
You will save five grand by doing this on a terrific motorcycle.

Okay. Had a GS and the new one just doesn't make me want to go back. So, the GS is out and it's down to the Multistrada or the new 2014 KTM Adventure. Help!

I'm crazy about Duc Multi but so afraid to give huge amount of money for something that I need to say a little prayer before I start it not to leave me on the road with some malfunction. And having your mechanic on speed-dail is no fun! Can anyone please tell me his or her thoughts and experience regarding Multi's reliability!? In my opinion when you pay something a lot the last thing on your mind should be reliability, because QUALITY should be expensive, right?
Thanks in advance!

Good riddance. :)

The grey is much nicer and less "in your face" IMO. If you want bling add it yourself. ;)
