Hi, thanks for the video. I am from Ecuador, here it constitutes the main tank of the armored forces, more than a hundred are operational, those are armed with a 105mm gun, the tanks are updated with ballistic computers, laser rangefinders, there are also on the APC and SPA versions. Peru would also have some.

just an update, the AMX13 had done its part in the Singapore Armed Forces. We are replacing with Germans Leopard... Nevertheless having to trained along side with these lovely machines is an honour...

Thank you for this remembrance! How beautiful the AMX has been restored! I drove the AMX 13 in 1966 for more than a year (in Holland)
The dubbel clutch gave me some trouble during my lessons... (In Holland we had the 105 mm gun) I drove the tank very often on the road. (that was nice!)
The widthe was 252 cm and therefore it was allowed.

LOL nice street legal tank... Almost impossible to legally own a gun there but perfectly legal to drive a tank down the road.

Would like to add a short note here that in 2010, all SM-1 (Singapore's version of AMX-13) has been decommissioned and scraped. Therefore it is not true that it is still in service in Singapore in 2015.

It's not everyday that you see a guy rocks up at work in a tank, but damn, that's awesome!

You can still load the main gun manually without using the magazine. That is where the extra stowage ammo come into play, different types are loaded manually by the commander as needed, the magazines are generally loaded with HE if enemy armour is not expected.

its no longer in service with Singapore since around 2007. Switched to the Leopard 2.

Singapore at one time had 350 of these, the largest operator of AMX-13. Upgraded with modern 350hp diesel engines, laser rangefinders, modern communications, etc. and indigenous APFSDS rounds.

When shooting the main gun with the AMX13-105, one should never traverse the gun outside the tracks or it would tip over from the recoil. We (the fortunate ones in the Centurions) called it the shooting rollerskate. The AMX13 was worn with army-issued suspenders and its tank commander had to bend or flex his whole body depending on whether the main gun (thus the turret) elevated or depressed. Reload was quick (think seconds) but it took a while before the whole verhicle calmed down and back into some semblance of battery after firing the main gun. Otherwise, a neat little package of vicious destruction to possible adversaries.

Interesting and clearly and concisely presented.  Very good series.

1:08 UNFAIR! It had 2 drums historically holding 6 rounds each, So why in World of tanks you have to shoot 6 rounds and reload? Why not 12? :(
