She had stage presence. It’s a gift. I loved the movie! Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman, Oscar worthy performances.

Excellent! As a modern day jazz/blues singer & songwriter with a 1920's style that is heavily influenced by the melodies of Clarence Williams, Lil Hardin, Irving Berlin and Bix Beiderbecke's cornet, I do love any little nuggets about all the singers & writers of that age. Thanks for publishing.

I hate that you try to discredit Ma Rainey as the creator of the blues. Your attempting to whitewash her achievements.

She may not have been a beautiful woman to YOU. Comment wasn't necessary. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I have a question: what was not GOOD LOOKING about her... ? Why on earth would post a tribute video and call the woman UGLY?

I am enjoying your channel. I found it by accident looking for a bio pic on Steve Winwood.

Great stuff Pamela--keep them coming. This is what YouTube SHOULD be about--not dancing cats or frat tricks. I like your easy style of presentation and, as a lover of jazz and blues (and women), the content is fantastic. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion! This was only our second episode into this series and the show has certainly evolved since we posted this video. That being said, doing an episode on Ma's vocal style (which was definitely unique!) sounds like a fine idea!

Did she refer to Ma Rainey as an unattractive woman? 😒 According to who's standards?
