Slick presentation, but you are going MILES TOO FAST regarding inputs and outputs. Setting up external instruments like a Montage or Modx that are also controllers is not at all simple. It is actually very complicated for a beginner. Many people cannot HEAR the recording they have done via midi because the I/O setup is not easy to understand. You do not make it clear what the AUX channel is and what it actually does. Many users cannot hear the midi output as AUDIO because the in/out setup is complicated. You need to SLOW DOWN and give MUCH more detail and thorough explanations.

Yo Gregor, I am so grateful for Presonus choosing you to assist us with all of our Studio One questions. You do an amazing job explaining and teaching us the tools we need to prosper on our musical journeys. Thank

Hi Gregor, you're brilliant!! This actually worked for connecting my Alesis digital piano to Studio One. I had to figure out that a double click is required on the External Devices tab in the mixer section to open up the controller settings box, but after that it worked. Even getting sound to be generated from my piano with local midi disconnected within it which I thought impossible. That's genius, thank you very much, I would never have worked this process out on my own this side of 5 years :-)

I am often starting projects with backing tracks created by an arranger keyboard where the arrangement can consist of up to 16 seperate tracks. Setting these up as shown in the video is still a time consuming task and maybe Presonus should consider to bring in Track Templates in one of the future updates.

I found these instructions in the Reference Manual and it may make it easier: Here's the process:
1.Click [External] in the Console Navigation column to open the External Devices panel.
2.Click the menu arrow for the external device.
3.Select Edit from the menu to open the control mapping window.
4.Click the Outputs button ().
5.Select Add Aux Channel at the bottom of the window. An Aux Channel appears in the Console.
6.If your external instrument has multiple outputs connected to your audio interface, add as many Aux Channels as you need.
7.Important: Click Save Default before closing the window; we'll explain that later.
8.Route the Aux Channel to the desired output. Your external device is now available the Console

I was about to sell my Waldorf Blofeld because of how annoying it was with to set it up in Cubase (I'm a newcomer to Studio One). So in my mind I thought it would be as diificult in S1 and thar I had to do it with two channels, one for the synth and one for the audio. And then....here...in Studio One you showed me how easy it is to add an external synth and to add a bus channel. This is absolutely amazing. And I can also change the Bank and Program within Studio One. And a piece of cake to add my Blofeld as both an instrument and a control surface. I'm very happy about this. This is Christmas. :)

Gregor, you are a God! I have been trying to figure this out since I registered my software a few days ago and the reference manual is absolutely horrible. My Kurzweil PC3 isn't in the list of vendors in the control panel so these tutorials finally put the myth of adding this keyboard to S1 to rest. Thank you.

This sounds awesome, however, on my system it doesn't seem that low latency monitoring applies to the AUX channel, so if I have drop out protection on high (so there is a lot of latency) and then I switch on low latency monitoring, and then I monitor the external device, the Aux channel doesn't seem to be included in the low latency monitoring. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Perhaps this is a feature request?

Hi, I have the Problem, that when I connect my MODX like this to Studio One ... hat if I add one MODX to my Production ... I can hear this sounds also If I use any other instrument. Have you an Idea what I have to change that hear my Synth or My Virtual Instruments when I like to record. I guess Problem is that I use MODX as well as my MIDI Imput Device for the Virtual Instruments? How can I fix that?

Great video.
I have a Yamaha Modx8
At this moments read midi and can record audio no problem.
It cannot write midi within Studio One (works fine within FLSTUDIO).
What am i missing?
Greetings from Switzerland

I've referred back to this one a lot. However, I am not able to export like he did and get anything but an empty file. I tried exporting stems, too. I know I could create an audio track and record that way, but that's not what Gregor told me I could do!

there are latencey isues you have side stepped here even bouncing the track down givess audio inaccuracies and timing errors

You addressed my concern right at the end, but only briefly. When we do the real-time bounce, are there any other steps needed to record the audio? Any options like record insert versus keeping it as an insert? Does the aux track turn into an audio track? It would've been nice for you to continue this through the bounce process.

Thanks for the tutorial!

Dear Gregor. I am extremely grateful to you for looking at Midi, as I am an old proponent of the system that has almost been left behind.
Please, StudioOne seems to have no option to display or work with external instrument preset listings. These seem to be completely out of reach. of course there can be thousands of them. do you know of any way that the preset listings for external instruments can at least be displayed within StudioOne.

Thanks, i was able to setup my pro vs-mini so quick ❤🙏🏼 One Question: i bounce EVERYTHING to audio, no matter if plug in or analog, so do i have to export it in real time still ? i know, common sense, pointless question, but i just wanna make sure that everything is working right :D

Too bad there's no latency compensation during playback. I like to use Maschine for drums and my Behringer TD-3 using its internal sequencer, but it always sounds slightly off. The weird thing is that when I record the TD-3 to an audio track, that audio is then properly latency compensated. The latency compensation just doesn't seem to work during playback.

Is Studio One version 5 available in the free version as well? Honestly all I want to do is record a voiceover or podcast. I haven’t even been able to get my mic setup in this app. I end up using Audition
