On April 9, 1940, a German warship called the Karlsruhe sank off the coast of Norway. It was hit by a torpedo and went down like a heavy stone. For nearly 80 years, nobody had any idea where the wreckage was located. It was finally discovered in 2017 by the country's state-run power grid operator, Statnett. They found the wreckage totally by accident beside one of their underwater cables. The engineers were conducting a routine survey using sonar when they noticed the outline of a 571-foot (174m) cruiser buried about 1500 feet (457m) beneath the waves.

The Karlsrhue wasn’t sunk during the Battle of Norway, she was sunk by a British sub on the way home. The only German Capital Ship sunk during the actual battle was the newly built Hipper Class Heavy Cruiser the Blucher. She was sunk by a brilliant crew of young reservists led by an older officer manning the old Oscarsburg Fortress in the middle of the fjord. Realizing that a German Invasion fleet was trying to sneak by at night (they weren’t at war with Germany) they famously opened up with the forts 2 old 19th century naval guns, and 2 rather ancient 19th century torpedo launchers. Famously sending Germany’s newest most technologically advanced ship to the bottom.

lol ummm apperently the narrator knowns nothing of history Germany lost half its fleet attacking Norway and lost more than just this light cruiser. The Heavy cruiser Blücher was sunk by a Norwegian fort protecting Oslo.

''was the only large ship lost when the nazis attacked Norway''

*Cries in Admiral Hipper-class cruiser Blücher tears*

Can the fuel and other chemicals be siphoned off without causing harm to the ocean and its inhabitants ?

Think of all the treasures (and probably contraband) down there, the ship itself is a treasure. Probably some old school medication too if it wasn't raided before it sank. Sinking like a stone; there probably wasn't enough time.

I hope they've learned from all of these sunken ships they never found to put some kind of beacon on parts of ships so if they go down they can find them
