Chase your dreams and don't stop until you've outrun everyone | Ed Ettinghausen | TEDxTemecula

At 31 years old, Ed's dream of completing a 26.2 mile marathon was crushed after a mere three miles. Fifteen years after the dream was buried and forgotten, starting anew, putting one foot in front of the other, he hasn't stopped. He soon realized the dream of not just completing a marathon, but broke the world record for most marathons in a year, followed by the world record for most 100 mile races in a year. Keep Calm & Jester On . . .

I loved running as a kid, and ran everywhere. As a 31 year old adult, I attempted to run a marathon, but failed before getting to mile four. I was told my knees were ruined. 15 years later, at the ripe old age of 46, I attempted to run a marathon once again - and this time I finished.

Within three years I attempted to break the world record for most marathon races in one year, and completed that goal. Three years later, I attempted to break the world record for most 100 mile races in one year, realizing that quest by finishing 40 races of 100 miles or longer in 2014.

In less than seven years, I've completed over 200 marathons, in addition to 111 races of 100 miles or longer, including seven 6-day races, completing over 400 miles five times. I've set three American 50-54 age group records, including breaking the 6-day record, on three separate occasions. I've now completed more races of 100 mile length or longer, than all but one American, and two other people in the world.

I'm very honored to have met you Ed. I'm equally honored to train under your direction for the LA Marathon in 2017. Thank you kindly for helping me become a better traveler by foot. I think it's the only way to travel! I enjoyed learning more about your life and dreams that have come true in this great video! It's just amazing!!!

Not only are you a congenial gentleman on the race courses but also an eloquent motivational speaker. It has been a pleasure to run with you at Across the Years and elsewhere. Keep it up. Love those buckles. Keep calm and jester on! :)

I know exactly what you mean about "well meaning fellow athletes" and misting eyes from my Olympic length triathlon finish in 2015. I got cramps and was last out of the water on the 1500 meter swim. Three miles into the 40K bike I had a flat tire with no spare and was forced to bike the course in reverse to the start being cat called ("your'e going the wrong way")..I was in tears when I told the RD I didn't want to be forced to quit. It would have been my only lifetime DNF-. He finally helped me secure a tire that fit.

I loved your talk!  Maybe I missed it but how did the whole "Jester" persona thing get started?  I remember first meeting you and learning about you back at the Bear Lake Marathons in Idaho 06/10/11 & Utah 06/11/11.  I did back to back marathons that weekend to qualify for the Marathon Maniacs and remember seeing you out there in your Jester outfit and was asking the other runners about you.  I live in San Diego so after that double marathon weekend I seem to see you all over the place at many many races and it is always so awesome to see you out there!  It is nice to now know your story.  I just seemed to have missed the "Jester" part of it.  See you soon out at another race, I am sure!  ~Karen (Marathon Maniac #4024, Half Fanatic #1043, Double Agent #158)~

He is a good runner, and could revive his dreams back again, but I didn't get impressed by his final talk about how that will affect my life.
