Very good video as usual. Collectibles have had ups and downs as the economy fluctuates. I think what has many investors worried is, if they over paid for books thinking they would automatically go up in value, they will not see their initial return in investment. I am starting to see examples of what I would call desperation sales. I have seen books being offered for sale citing everything but the kitchen sink ; Key Issue, rare variant, low print run, hidden variant, misprint, etc. A little research by savvy buyers will weed out these hyped up sales tactics. The economy will improve it has before. Hopefully savvy collectors, buyers and sellers will weather the storm.

The economy is bumming me out in regards to everything EXCEPT comics.
The last five years have been amazing selling for me, and during the lockdowns I sold off all my marvel keys in the PC, save a few, for huge profits, because I bought them so cheap a decade ago.
Now my TMNT collection is maintaining a good value; I knew prices would go down but overall they have better value than they did 5 years ago.Im holding onto them anyway. And things I want are more affordable.
Comics are going to be less present in pop culture moving forward. People are catching on to how bad the movies actually are, the fly-by-night collectors are losing interest and people are holding onto their cash. GREAT! Comics will never die, but they always go from being niche to more present in the culture and back again.
My hope is that we see greater creator driven, story based books being made. A plummet in value of the bloated variants and modern book, and the steady maintenance of established keys along with natural inflation.

Well, I am not upset that I might be able to pick up a key or two. But I see the how the price of other stuff going up will affect how my comic purchases will be affected. The whole bottom has to drop compared out before that Hulk 181 is mine. Lol

It’s a buyers market. I would speculate that prices will continue to fall.
Save your cash for those grails and buy in when you think is best.
There are and will be deals to be had this year

Supply chain issues have affected manufacturing companies, meaning the employees there get paid off or don’t have money to buy other stuff. This means less entertainment spending specially on Amazon. Which means again less revenue to pay employees hence layoffs

Collectibles have traditionally held value as “investments” in down economies. One of the reasons the card bros helped yak up prices a couple years back. Now I’ma watch the vid.

Food costs are the real issue here, seems to keep going up despite inflation % dropping some.

I like comics, Good cheaper stuff for me. I got back into them during Covid. Will be a pensioner in 3 years so I guess I'm just a custodian. Hope whoever ends up with my books appreciates them
Unfortunately we are heading for the mother of all crashes regarding the economy. You cannot print money like we have and get away with it.

Comicxology was great in the beginning but the limitations, difficulty using the service make it as you'd say, ungood. Sad to see cuts are happening either way. Tough times for comic sellers.

Great video as usual bud! I think you’re spot on with the link between discretionary spending and comics. Fed is looking for unemployment to increase, and with them potentially not cutting rates until next year, it’s looking like the economy has a little more down pressure in the short term. It’s also interesting to see how in 2018/19 comics really started making big runs up, when historically, comics have just been steady eddy. Making solid consistent returns, and not making those big parabolic, crypto-like runs up. So, I’d be interested to see your take, and just In general, how far we come back down. If it’s to 2018/19 levels, slightly lower? Good stuff Reg, hope the channel keeps goin strong!

You hit the nail on the head, it’s the economy. Too easy to label the comic downturn, as a “correction”, “back to where it should be at”. Not it’s not, the decline is because of the economy, less disposable income, people’s fears not getting into something that is on a recent decline. The comic index has followed a similar pattern to the s&p 500 and nasdaq index. Everybody is going through the same things. It will pick up, and I’m sure there will be another spike at some point. Yes it sucks buying at the peak, and not getting the ROI you expected, and now having to just flaw your way back just to hopefully not lose money. But that’s the risk with any investment, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward. For me, I been buying up comics this past year, great time to buy.

Where I live gas prices went backed up from $4.10 backup to $5.49. Just saying.
