This is a Chihiro and Mr. Takahashi appreciation thread.

They both played a huge and critical role in the acquisition of the TV. However, due to the private nature of their lives, I wasn't able to get into the more specific details of their roles in the video. Chihiro put in so much work to make the logistics work, and Mr. Takahashi put his neck on the line to make this happen. It was a huge, stressful, and risky ordeal for them. Without the work of both Chihiro and Mr. Takahashi, this story would have had a very different ending. I do not have social media to point you to, so please thank them here 🙏

Moving insane sized CRT from Japan to USA: Easy
Talking to Sony about the insane sized CRT: Impossible+

I just recently embarked on a long nearly 10 year journey to get an original Lunar Lander arcade game vector graphics display fixed. This arcade is important to me. I was a youth volunteer at a science museum in Nashville and the Lander sat in lobby of the planetarium forever. One day it died and the museum stuck it out on the loading dock to toss away. That was in 94. I borrowed my dad's truck to rescue it and I've been carrying it around with me through every move, relocation, apartments and houses. And I finally found someone who could restore it for me. I just got it working this year and its a blast to play. Brought back so many good memories. So your efforts to save that CRT really hit an emotional chord with me. I really hope you score that interview with Sony!

4 in the morning, about to go to sleep, saw the notif pop for a Shank upload… sleep was postponed

This video was honestly amazing, so much work involved, excellent job to everyone involved! Also, as an up and coming game developer, Abebe is a hero and amazing for managing to pull off everything he did while finishing up his game. What a legend

I shed a tear for all the CRT tv's my friends and I pulled from the curb and destroyed in our youth with no thought about the future of this technology and how it would die unappreciated in our society until now... you humbled me with the recognition of how amazing of a thing we literally trashed as a society only to be unappreciated now for it's strengths and nuiance apart from the CRT community you are a part of. Great job representing this community, item, and your saga to acquire and restore it! Truly an awesome inspiring story and well told. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

30 yrs ago I received a 32” Trinitron as a wedding gift. That was after living in Japan for a couple of years, meeting my husband in a university Japanese class and returning to Japan for an internship together. Ate much soba. Since then, we’ve raised 4 sons and a daughter who love classic video games, and played some on our Trinitron with a game cube and nes we picked up at retro shops in Japan. I don’t even know how I found this video, but I love you for making it. You made my day.

I watched the whole video, this was amazing to watch. The stars really aligned for you. It was a part of your destiny to save and preserve this TV. Great work!

About the manual: You might be able to "scan" those large pages with your phone with a software like CamScanner. The resolution of modern phones is plenty enough for good results.

By far, one of the greatest shows i have ever seen on YouTube. The older I get, the more I appreciate the passions behind hobbies. The way the stars aligned which created an opportunity for you to put this masterpiece together are nothing short of remarkable. Wishing you, your friends, the old owner, those involved, and those watching a blessed life.

What an incredible video and story. I don't even want to say too much just to make sure not to spoil it for anyone reading the comments mid-video. From the intro to the Abebe reveal, this was so good and inspiring as someone who makes content.

You and abebe obviously worked hard on making rhis happen but the esitong, pacing, and presentation was top notch on the video. Like i said, inspiring

25:14 this sentence alone speaks magnitudes to what anything you buy these days have come to, everythings made to essentially be replaced the next year cause manufacturers basically put time bombs in these things and obviously cant fix them cause then you wouldn't have any reason to give them more money for newer shinier "better" products.

90s Japan tech was high water mark of tech marketing and excitement. Flagship products and timeless design.

Incredibly done! I love how this was essentially a mini documentary with the interviews and everything. Also, the S Tier trolling for an S Tier TV was legendary lol

Man, that was heartwarming and wholesome story, something like an old Christmas children movie, it has all elements: a group of loyal friends sharing a dream, a very unlikely plot twist, a wise Japanese man, a tension and a resolution in a last minute with a miracle. 10/10 would watch again.

This is insane that this whole video was able to come to fruition. The mere fact it survived the trip was insane. If Sony doesn't respond they screwed up big time. Your dedication has earned you a sub.
