Hi guys,

welcome back to my channel! As many of you will know, I was myself a German exchange student a few years ago when I decided to study abroad in the United States of America, in Texas to be exact.
I thought it might be fun to let future host families know what to expect when hosting a german exchange student.
Please leave me any open questions down in the comments below :D
Yours,

Laura

Thank you for putting this video together! We are hosting a German girl and she arrives in three weeks. We live near San Francisco and we have lots of plans for her with our family. There were a few things you mentioned that I would not have expected. Like the open conversations about politics and sex. I can be very political, but the other topic I will leave to my wife and daughter. Ha ha! Thanks again for making the video and glad you had a good experience here in America!

Hello! Just found your channel. I see your channel is from a year ago but still so very relevant! We have just received an emergency placement of a German foreign exchange student. Things were not working out with her host family and the school asked us to take her in for the year. It has only been a few days now but what a blessing! She is so very nice and exactly how you have described! I look forward to watching the rest of your videos to learn as much as I can about this sudden and new experience we are having.

We are hosting a German exchange student starting in august and we are excited. We’ve had several conversations and video chats with him. How would you compare the way boys dress in Germany compared to the US? He also asked about church and he was happy to hear we don’t go regularly. We also live in Texas but in the Dallas Fort Worth area so it’s very different then small town Texas.

Thanks for this. We have a German girl coming this year for our first hosting. Lots of German descendants here in Wisconsin so should be a good fit

As a member of a Persian-Canadian family I feel like conversations are very open and really nothing is off limit except for extensive sex talk. Sure we'll have conversations to be safe and avoid unexpected things (pregnancies and STDs) but not to really have an entire conversations about say women orgasm. So it was really interesting to know how the family you were hosted by didn't speak about politics for example. Thanks for sharing these btw!

Great video! We are hosting a German high schooler in August. We are first time host lives in Arizona. Super excited. Question: our organization said no alcohol but we have alcohol in the fridge. Should we put it away to avoid her breaking the rule? Also which phone company did your host family get you to communicate? We have burn phone(I am not sure if she would like a old phone like that) thank you

I wouldn't that sex is such a common topic for a family dinner. I mean it's not like we avoid talking about it but it's not such a usual topic.😂

Based on her American accent, I thought she was going to tell us about the German kid they hosted.

One more thing to consider with respect to religion and going to church: about 40% of Germans don't have a religion at all

Europe is not tiny by comparison to the US.... as a whole it is roughly the same size as the US. Maybe you meant that Germany is small by comparison....
