Is Counterfeit 'KKFC' Better Than Real KFC?

KKFC has stolen a lot from KFC. The name obviously, but also the product range and branding too. So I visited KKFC in Kathmandu to see how it compares to real KFC in taste, price, and experience. Which is better? Real or counterfeit KFC?

KFC came to Nepal in 2009, and KKFC opened in 2017. KKFC stands for Krispy Krunchy Fried Chicken.

KFC in Nepal is seen as a premium product, and KKFC is a cheaper alternative for budget-conscious consumers. And besides the obvious intellectual property theft, I think they're doing a good job at providing good quality and taste for a lower price.

KKFC's own website says, "KKFC is the very first of its kind fast food restaurant that started in Nepal in 2017. A true Nepali brand." I'm not sure KKFC counts as a "true Nepali brand!" A true Nepali brand is Goldstar or Ilam Tea. These are great Nepali brands that have built their own brand and quality product.

These kind of counterfeit restaurants are usually run by ex workers of big food chains, one of my friends cousin used to work at Burger King here in India but he left the job and started his own food van with similar menu but more tastier and fresh version of it. It was cheaper too.

fun fact: the KKFC used to be a original KFC, but the management didn't want to pay for the royalties. hence the extra "K"

I dunno, I've always enjoyed Indian KFC even more than western KFC, even though it's a spicier version. I haven't noticed it being any dryer or less fresh than the KFC I've had in the UK, USA and Australia.

In France, at least where I live, there’s two counterfeit restaurants, one seems to be a counterfeit McDo and the other seems to be a counterfeit KFC. The counterfeit McDo is good but more expensive. I haven’t eaten KFC in France yet because it’s too far away from where I live but the counterfeit KFC is pretty good and Deliveroo offers promotions there pretty much all the time so it’s not too expensive.

20 years ago when KFC started in India in Bangalore original recipe was the standard. there was no hot and spicy but original recipe did not work and KFC India discontinued the product after a few years when they saw that hot and spicy was selling way way more than original recipe.

To be honest, I actually love KFC in other countries BECAUSE they do hot and spicy which just tastes so much better to me than original recipe. They only let us buy hot and spicy here in Australia for a month or two, as a limited edition item.
