what makes Jimmy on another level is his ability to adapt to what ever the situation calls for. other past champions have done it running the same format using the same strategy . Everyone says that what if there was no chase format then how many would Johnson have won well I say how many would Richard or dale won if the table was turned? all 3 are awesome in there own place but the reality is Johnson and Earnhardt and Gordon maybee Stewart are on in a league of their own .

Kevin 👍 correct. Johnson was different; understated, quiet, non controversial and an outlier ( Californians, though not unique are always considered outsiders in a Southern sport).

Rusty Wallace is, IMO. He competed against Dale Earnhardt in his PRIME when Earnhardt had a world champion crew (not the end of his career deep in his 40s) and got a championship. Yet people call him “one-time Wallace”. Jimmie Johnson was named second GOAT behind Petty while Earnhardt was put 5th, but Johnson is underrated? Come on...
