Written and produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. Arranged by Dennis Lambert and Jimmie Haskell.

From the album, “Gayle McCormick”.

Hailing from Missouri, Gayle began her recording career in 1967 as lead singer with Steve Cummings & The Klassmen. They released a couple of singles before Gayle went on to join the group, Smith in Los Angeles. Their debut album for Dunhill, “A Group Called Smith”, reached #17 on the US album chart. It included the #5 charting, “Baby It’s You”.

When the group disbanded, Gayle stayed with Dunhill and released her debut self-titled album, which charted at #198. “It’s A Cryin’ Shame”, a track on the album, fared better, making it to #41 on the Hot-100. Other tracks from the album, “Gonna Be Alright Now” and “You Really Got A Hold On Me” also charted when released on 45. Sadly, we lost Gayle in March, 2016.

The song was revived by the Grass Roots in 1975 on their self-titled album for Lambert and Potter’s Haven label.
