Regular custom item mode is fun in the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe wave 3 update; however, TEAM VS CUSTOM ITEMS is so much better and customizability becomes exponential!!!

If this was online, for the shock only item team, the OP strategy would be for one player to accept last place but constantly spamming items while on a double box the whole race, making their entire team get top 5

Something interesting you missed is that Boo actually beats lightning. Because you get invincibility and you also get to steal the other team's shocks

1:44 The reason for that is because MK8 has a skidding state, where your tires don’t grip the ground and you move forward slowly. This can happen when you hold brake and accelerate at the same time, when you try to accelerate immediately after going into reverse, or if you fail to get a boost from attempting a rocket start (you can even see your tires skid in place before you are released). When you hop, it cancels the skid, causing you to land and accelerate like normal. Using an invincibility star maxes out your acceleration, so you end up shooting forward.

It's crazy how Nintendo managed to give Mario Kart 8 such extraordinary longevity. And even forgetting about the 48 new tracks, this one simple update alone is probably going to extend the game life for a lot of people by 100 hours or more. This game didn't have any challenges I would consider extreme or now.

An idea for a team race is to have one team be "chasers" and the other be "runners". The chasers have red shell, red shell, piranha plant and blue shell. The runners have mushroom, triple mushroom and golden mushroom. In theory what would end up happening is it plays as one team trying to run ahead and the other trying to bring them down.

Love the video Troy! ⚡ Last night, my friend and I played a few GPs of "Item Draft" versus. We took turns drafting items and battled it out. I picked second, and that is a MAJOR disadvantage in this mode. Because the coin will always be the last item picked, and it is so common in first place, it takes out most significant items you can take. My friend took all the shells and such and I was getting rekt in top spots. My blue team ended up having a ten point lead going into the last race, but his team target shocks us on Mushroom Gorge Lap 3 (shock was his 1st overall)... I get first, but my entire team finishes 7-11, for a 32 point swing in his favor. It was super fun, would love to see you try an Item Draft versus video! 💙

Here’s my list of challenges you could try in the all-blue-shells tourney (again, I posted this in your last video too)
1. Win without throwing any blue shells
2. Win without getting targeted and hit by a blue shell
3. Complete a race while having 10 coins
4. Win without getting targeted by a blue shell at all (this includes if it’s hovering towards you, so no outrunning)
5. Win without getting hit by a blue shell (like at all)
Once again, I ranked them by (assumed) difficulty

Hey Troy, just so you know, you can get a crazy 8 of only stars and only red shells like you said, it just doesn’t work with items like the blooper or if it fills in with a mushroom.

My brother and i did only blue shells and triple reds! On Baby Park it was super chaotic and fun!

Also i loved the backwards aspect to Peach's Garden, that was a super fun update!
