I was at a book store today and I saw a book that actually spoke about dressing to your tribe and its sociological effect. Reminded me of your videos, Tanner. Huge fan and great content!

Part 2 was much needed! This give me a better understanding of distraction and how to use it to my advantage. Also helped me understand part 1 much better.

Hey Tanner...hope you get to feeling better soon. I've been fighting allergies and/or a cold this week myself. I think you are on point with this concept. I like the example of the conformity within the attorneys offices. Those were some really great examples of how you can look over all the same, but at the same time add your own flavor and style to your outfit. Like I said before, I work at a pharmacy and I have to wear a blue polyester jacket no matter what I have on for the work day, but I've been uping my style a bit with what I currently have in the closet. I've gone from wearing mostly different colored t-shirts (navy, light heather grey and dark grey) to wearing different plaid long sleave button down shirts. Some regular button with button down collars and some pearl snap western style. Just with this change I have had more customers come up to pharmacy window and ask if I'm the pharmacist, which I am not...I'm a pharmacy technician, and I get an over all feeling of more respect, for lack of a better word, from our customers. Just wanted to give you some feedback on how things are going so far. I am continuing to tweak my style and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all you do.

One of the things I really enjoy about Alpha M's videos are his summaries in the description. Makes things easier to recap for me

Isn't achieving your purpose, with the desired perception, with the least amount of effort, the ultimate goal?

Some really interesting ideas. I think as you say it goes beyond tribe - I can definitely relate to this. I work full-time at a firm in London, so I guess I'm part of the corporate 'tribe'. However, I dress outside of the norm for the tribe, because i want my clothing to signify who I am as an individual (which includes archetype) above all else. Obviously tribe is a big part of that, but until your sense of tribe is fully solidified - which as a young man, mine definitely isn't - I don't see too much value in confining your image to a particular tribe to the determinant of said image (unless say you're on a focused career path which dictates you conform to a particular style).

You also mentioned location, which I think's a really interesting aspect of style that's often overlooked. I spent a summer in California a couple of years back and i felt so out of place, as the widely accepted summer style for men is SO different to what it is in England/Europe. And in all honesty, what I considered to be well dressed back home, just looked like a costume when all the men around me were wearing flip flops, skate shoes and baggy t-shirts. Rather than feeling well-dressed, I felt false and pretentious, almost a caricature. Balance, yet again, is key. As much as we may want to throw caution to the wind and dress how we personally want, at all times, those variables you mention do come into play, and they aren't fixed variables - they're subject to change - so we have to adapt our style accordingly.

Get well soon, mate! On the status thing, like Gary Vaynerchuk he goes to meetings in sneakers and a hoodie like a boss. :D

Conformity.. authenticity... noted. If the majority of the tribe dressing improperly then I have to be an ex-tribe to show them the proper way. The motivation is not about self but toward something greater, to edify the tribe.

I'm getting ready for a date and I just realized that the only button up shirt I could wear is the one I already wore the week before to the first date I had with her. It's a light blue ocbd, which in itself should not be very distracting, but it does have contrasting pieces inside the placket and the cuffs, so I'm not sure if I can get away with it.
I actually might try it, just for the sake of the experiment.
Was my shirt distracting enough for her to notice? Find out tomorrow...

Does this mean that if you want to dress up to some extend while you're peers are very casual - You are by definition a rake, or somebody who should be a rake or gtfo?
