Step into the ring of Bartley Gorman's extraordinary life, a tale of resilience and unyielding determination that catapulted him to the pinnacle of British bare-knuckle boxing.

Born in the rugged heart of Ireland in 1956, Gorman was destined to become a force to be reckoned with. Raised amidst the grit and challenges of a tough neighborhood, he navigated the world of crime from a young age.

Yet, it was within the Romani community that he truly earned his legendary status, crowned as the revered "King of the Gypsies."

In the fierce battlegrounds of the 1980s and 1990s, Gorman emerged as a symbol of indomitable strength, conquering opponents with his unrivaled prowess.

His fists unleashed thunderous power, each blow carrying the weight of his hard-fought journey.

In over 200 battles, he stood tall, never tasting defeat, his unyielding spirit setting him apart.

While his name struck fear into the hearts of his adversaries, Gorman was no mere brute. Adorned with an unwavering sense of honor, he never sought conflict but stood as a guardian of justice, only engaging in battle when provoked.

His code of fair play echoed through the halls of the criminal underworld, earning him respect and admiration.

Beyond the ring, Gorman's legacy transcended the boundaries of boxing.

He represented the resilience of a community, the embodiment of their struggle and triumph. His journey was a testament to the unbreakable human spirit, shaped by a challenging upbringing and an unrelenting commitment to his principles.

However, in 2002, tragedy struck as Gorman was diagnosed with cancer, an opponent he couldn't defeat in the ring.

At the age of 46, he left an indelible mark on the sport, forever etched in the memories of those who witnessed his battles.

Though his flame extinguished too soon, his legacy burned brightly, a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.

Bartley Gorman, the warrior, the legend, proved that strength isn't solely measured by physical might, but by the virtues one upholds.

Despite his criminal past, he left an enduring impact, admired for his unyielding spirit and unwavering commitment to his beliefs.

His story serves as a testament to the triumph of the human spirit, forever echoing through the halls of bare-knuckle boxing history.

Knew Bartley from the age of 10.. my dads great friend. My father went to Germany while he had treatment for his cancer. Bartley was a very interesting man and had so many stories to tell. I sat in his caravan on a uttoxeter site many times as growing up and helped build his home there. I also had the Great pleasure to sit in his house which was full of amazing antiques. I always felt nervous around him but i think it was due to his appearance and presence as a hard man. He just had this thing about him. Very respectful to people who showed it back. Made me feel his hand my dad said touch his fists.. they were rough big and solid. The book is genuine from what I’ve grown to know but all books do have a little exaggeration to them. Proud to have met him and his lovely wife Anne. I remember one statement more than any other he said to me and my brother once at his land.. never walk away from a bully stand your ground and fight back they’ll never come again win or lose..

U-TTOX-ET-ER is how you pronounce it. He didn’t die on a traveler camp he had a beautiful house built, you can see it as you pass McDonald’s on the A50 in Uttoxeter.

Just to clarify for you it's pronounced you-tox-et-er, and in the town he was a feared but we'll respected guy, a man you didn't cross but then there was no need to cross him either. I'm sure if he was still alive today it would still be the same
