That’s the one thing I thought was weird about Rayvis’ death in game. When Cal killed him I was thinking “He should come back from that”, but I liked your explanation.

People often forget about the Empire’s ill-fated Project Durge in Legends. Even getting blasted into that sun might not have killed him. What they salvaged and plugged into the droid body eventually went rogue as a bounty hunter, and Boba Fett was pretty certain he wasn’t dead yet even after you took care of him in Galaxies.

The final boss fight with Rayvis occurs in a facility built around a giant, vaporizing laser beam. Coincidentally enough, like you said, one of the ways we know how to kill a gen’dai for good is to completely vaporize them. Kind of a missed opportunity there, I feel

I had NO CLUE Rayvis was just like Durge. Nor did I know all this about their species! Thanks for this info man!

Imagine a Gen'Dai Jedi or even Sith.

Hey Alex, I don't know how much you know about the Halo franchise, but the Gen 'Dai and the Hunters sound very similar, are they similar to you or different?

Now that Star Wars Outlaws is out, I'm looking forward to seeing some videos about all the aliens and creatures of the five planets (both new and old) in the game. Also, I'm still waiting for the videos about the creatures of Koboh and Jedha. Come on people, it's been well over a years since Jedi: Survivor was released. What is making it take so long? 👽

My favourite durge moment is still probably when he grabbed a jedi by the neck, told him to take a deep breath and then proceeded to dunk said jedi’s had in a river of lava.

Would like to see a video about Shistavanen and other wolfish and foxish sentient alien species🥺

Durge was a monster in the Republic comics from the 2000's. A ruthless and brutal villain who got a fittingly brutal death.

I love that they’re named after Genndy Tartakovsky. The creator of that clone wars micro series that introduced Durge

Rayvis was SUCH a great villain in Survivor. He's honestly one of my favourites now. I feel like it's so rare we see an honourable bad guy so Rayvis felt very distinct. He's clearly a bad guy and a sadist, I don't feel bad for him necessarily but he still lives by a code and his dynamic with Dagan was great. Again, it felt rare to have two villains with genuine respect for each other, even though Dagan is clearly the superior giving the orders. Rayvis' backstory is also really interesting, he was a Jedi hunter during the time of the High Republic, hunting down members of the Jedi Order, killing them and taking their lightsabers as trophies, exactly like General Grievous did in the Clone Wars. Someone like that being active during the supposed golden age of the Republic and the Jedi is really interesting to me.

From the moment they revealed him in the trailers and he appeared to be a Gen'Dai, I KNEW he was going to be a NIGHTMARE to fight in boss battles. My first reaction was "Oh NO! HOW ARE WE GONNA BEAT HIM?! It took Anakin blasting Durge into a sun to kill him!" And it turned out I was right, he took me 4 hours to beat on my first playthrough on Grand Master. It might be my favourite one of the game though, it was genuinely a lot of fun! Honestly I accepted Cal simply beheading him, I feel like that would have destroyed the nerves connected to his brain but I hadn't considered the possibility Cal literally destroyed his head instead. I also like the fact that Rayvis' death wasn't some grand spectacle, I was honestly expecting having to do something huge to stop him but he honours his code and requests Cal kill him before attacking again to force the Jedi to do so despite being offered a chance to live. He mentioned being captured by the Jedi during the High Republic and they refused to kill him and imprisoned him for his crimes instead, despite his request for a warrior's death and Rayvis felt dishonoured by that act. He may have even felt like he should have died 200 years ago which might explain why he was so willing to die in his battle with Cal, rather than joining him and getting the chance to see Tanalorr again, something he mentions dreaming of for centuries. Rayvis died because he allowed Cal to destroy him so he could go out on his own terms. That's a top notch end for a character like him. Cal has a knack for killing the unkillable it seems.😂

There are also a handful on Gen'Dai in The Old Republic MMO, one was a leader in a gang of pirates on Hoth, not dissimilar to Rayvis actually, and another was actually a freedom fighter opposing the Sith Empire and he actually touches on their Legends history of getting attacked by the Sith and nearly driven to extinction. They aren't major characters in that game but it's still always cool to see a member of the species pop up because it always means things are about to get tough and we're in for good storytelling.

Fun fact: the Gen'Dai are named after Genndy Tartakovsky - the showrunner for the 2003 Clone Wars that originated Durge!

Love how Durge in the dr Aprhra comics is like:

"I'm notorious hard to kill".

Everybody who knows his legends counterpart knows that's the understatement of the millennium.

Obviously now that Durge is no longer Clone Wars area character his motivations are likely different, but I always thought it was interesting in legends that he joined the CIS specifically so he could kill Clones because he hated Mandalorians as a group of Mandos had captured him for like a thousand years and tortured him

1:10 As context for those with less knowledge of the Legends Timeline: that means a Gen'Dai born during the Great Hyperspace War (5000 BBY) could hypothetically live until the events of the Legacy comics which is the farthest beyond the Original Trilogy the original Expanded Universe got to...

Imagine if Pong Krell fought a Gen'Dai, before the Clone Wars?
(off subject) What if the next Tales of the Jedi had Pong Krell and Ord Enisence backstory?
I keep thinking how the future TOTJ episodes can reveal and expand on.
Maybe showing Krell and Enisence on a mission.

In Star Wars The Old Republic online game, there is a mission where a Gen'dai called "The Flame" is (perhaps) the main culprit. The imperial admiral he have captured reveals that you can kill them by shredding and dispersing their bodies.. They must feel unease around a woodchipper 😀

It would be interesting to see if Rayvis appears in the High Republic era, considering we know that he had been working with Dagan Gera since he beat him.

It would be interesting to see him appear looking for Dagan in the comics or the novels and he ends up fighting the jedi there

The Gen'Dai are one of my favorite species in Star Wars.

While I think it sucks that "beheading" is now one of the ways to kill 'em in the New Canon, since it happens in a video game, I think one can let it slide.
After all, in SWTOR, you could literally punch Gen'Dai to death if you have the Scrapper-Scoundrel advance class...

Though I do hope they eventually retcon it so that Ravys only died because either his healing-factor simply was at its limit or because he decided not to regenerate before getting beheaded and his healing factor didn't kick in because of that.
