I never saw that line as "Vegeta would have been good otherwise." I can see him being a bad guy, and still be bothered by the manipulation. Even torturers don't like to be tortured.

That dub line doesn’t even imply that Vegeta wasn’t evil before. All it says is that Frieza forced Vegeta to follow his demands.

I love how the Abridged series addressed this part too. As Vegeta lay there dying he confessed to Goku what Frieza did to their race. Goku says he now understands why Vegeta is the way he is to which the Saiyan Prince responds that he'd be evil even without Frieza doing anything.

I more interpreted that line in the dub as Vegeta trying to reach out to Goku’s empathy and manipulating the truth, cause once he came back to life after that, he was back to being evil with no Frieza in sight.

Reminder: Vegeta wanted to be immortal. You think he was just planning to overthrow Frieza and join the good guys? No, he wanted to REPLACE Frieza. He has no problems with a dictator, he only had a problem with who got to be it.
