Presumably all the dead ends are sealed. In which case isn't the flow simply following the path with the least back pressure?
EDIT: I should have thought before I commented. I guess if all the channels are full of (non-compressible) milk, and all paths, including the end pool, are sealed, I've probably just shot my question down.

This doesnt solve the shortest path problem, in fact it finds the longest path with no loops. Am I right?
