When Doc Oc switched bodies with Peter in the comics he punched Scorpion in the jaw and knocked his entire jaw off his face. That's when he realized Spider-Man had been holding back all these years and then decided to become a good guy out of sheer respect

Whenever I ponder on the notion of Spider-Man not holding back his true strength, whether it's Tobey, Andrew, Tom or any other incarnation outside of the live-action films, I'm reminded of the Superior Spider-Man comic where Doc Ock took over Peter's body, and at some point during the comic, because he didn't know just how much raw power was contained within Peter's body, he easily tore Scorpion's jaw off with a single punch by accident when Doc didn't hold back. It's at that point that Doc realized that all these years, Peter was pulling his punches against him and his enemies where, if he wanted to, Spidey could have killed Doc Ock and his other foes had he decided to stop restraining himself.

I think Peter was still pulling his punches during the illusion scene. The dent made in the brick wall/pillar Peter punched looks about the same as the one he made in the metal when trying to kill Goblin. If he wasn't pulling his punches in the illusion scene, the dent in the brick would be much deeper.
