Periodization in AP World History #apworld

Ever hear the phrase, "you can't see the forest for the trees?". Basically, you might miss the big picture by focusing on the details. DON'T SKIP OVER PERIODIZATION. Be familiar with the timeline GOALPOSTS set up by the Collegeboard.

Don't miss the forest (big trends) by focusing too much on the trees (details/facts/battles/people, etc).

Subbed for when I make my kids homework. I sucked at history (I've read up since then and educated myself since I find history easier to learn the older I get) but I won't let my kids fail where I failed.

Not in the US system, skipped a lot of history classes but still remember famous years like 46 BC, 0079, 1066, 1212, 1492, 1776 and 1914, and I seem to recall the HRE being started by a surprise coronation in 0800 .

I like your vibe. I'm also currently wearing a 90s Xmen shirt and just explained the methods and strategies used by the Mongolian Empire to my nephew. For like 45 minutes at the kitchen table.

I’m literally graduated and have no interest for going into a history field, but for some reason I still feel the need to watch this lol

So in the Netherlands we have a method which is kind of the same but not quite. Here’s the timeslots with the most important examples:

Timeslot 1:
Hunters + gatherers, farming, creation of cities. -, 3000BC

Timeslot 2:
Ancient times, Greece, Roman (no China unfortunately). 3000 BC - 500 AD

Timeslot 3:
Dark Ages, feudalism. 500 AD - 1000 AD

Timeslot 4:
Rise of cities, late Middle Ages, wealth. 1000AD - 1500 AD

Timeslot 5:
Reconquista, Renaissance. 1500-1600 AD.

Timeslot 6:
Dutch independence from Spain, colonial empires, global trade.

Timeslot 7:
Era of enlightenment, absolutism, revolutions.

Timeslot 8:
Industrialisation, imperialism, political spectrum.

Timeslot 9:
WW1, Roaring twenties+Great Depression, WW2

Timeslot 10:
Cold War, decolonisation.

I find that having a few dates in your memory helps you remember how things fit together.

So I don't need to know as many specific dates of events in every unit for the AP Exam? 😮

Dates are the buttons on the shirt of history!

How was history talked about before periodization?
And, what are various ways history discuss. I know Marx talked about it terms of conflicts.

Your shit is fire. I love history, so instead of reading a bunch of history books. I start AP history materials in the public library. The reason being AP history materials like your video gives you the CLIFF NOTES of history. So, I can organize and history and make my own periodization. For example, I like African American history and video game history. So, I would periodized African American history start with 1619 to 1808 the act that ban the importation of slaves into U.S. and etc. Or, I could disagree with and established periodization like Geological time stuff and develope my own, or even reconcile two periodization Biblical timeline and scientific timeline!

For profit organization such as The College Board has no place in public education (and don’t let them fool you with their Tax exempt status, their payrolls are in the millions)

Our timeline is absolute nonsense. We are devolving in the construction department. The mainstream narrative is ridiculous when it comes to old buildings all across America

kind of jealous... the hl ib history exam is way more strict on dates and specific figures like that
