Engine Coolant System Rust

The importance of utilizing the proper coolant\anti freeze in your vehicle is key. Pouring water on a regular basis in to the radiator instead of the proper coolant blend can wreak havoc on both metal and plastic components

This Mustang came in to the garage with an overheat at idle symptom . Based upon the discolored rusty coolant, we quickly recognized that we would need to start with a new thermostat and water pump, along with a deep coolant flush to eliminate the oxidized coolant that was circulating throughout the system.

After removing the water pump, we identified a very rotted impeller ,which certainly would cause lack of coolant flow through the engine block from the radiator.

Remember to inspect your coolant system every spring or winter and ensure the condition of coolant is to specification. Additionally ,if you have to add water for emergency type situations, make sure to flush out.

Appreciate you visiting our channel & will continue to post up on a weekly basis. Thanks ! Happy Thanksgiving !

Thank you for valuable tips. We often find ourselves to be very negligent with maintenance.

I have a small crack in the plastic part of my radiator, when it flows it lets out a rust color, i think you might have solved my issue with me wondering what the color was and where from because I use green coolant

I bought a 91 Mazda 323, the coolant was dirty, I was about to flush it, but it just almost dissapeared from the tank, so I poured it until MAX, and replaced the radiator cap (it was possibly leaking there, the spring-like thing refused to move).
It was clean for a few days, but after that it became dirty again, but did not dissapearing since then. It's not oil, car runs great, no overheating at all, no white smoke from the exhaust, so I assume the head gasket is fine.
My mechanic said he will flush the car when its spring.
I thought about replacing a few metal parts, possibly the rust source (radiators, water pump, ect) but I dont want to replace it for a lot of money without knowing which part is bad.
Is it a problem for the car, to use it like this for a few months? I havent experienced anything bad at all so far, but I dont want to destroy it.
Informativa video BTW!

Cracking little tips. Good man. I have a 2006 shogun sport 3.0 V6 which had all the coolant turn corrosive. I had every part of the coolant system changed out including radiator, pipes, pump etc... only thing not changed out was the block. Still gets hot if coolant gets low and coolant levels need staying on top of far more often now. I suspect there's nothing more I can do but stay on top of it. Mechanic said get shot of it.

Happy belated turkey day. My wife's car has a leaky mess under the hood. It's rusty brown. How many other things besides the water pump produce this rusty coolant? Please thanks
